At the heart of this production is Evgeny Shwartz’s renowned play, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved fairy tale. Yet in Schwartz’s hands, the familiar story becomes a poignant reflection on modern life, its values, and its challenges. A wise storyteller and romantic, Shwartz infuses the tale with deep faith in the triumph of light over darkness, sincerity over cynicism.
Throughout the play, Schwartz’s light soul shines through. In our rehearsals of The Snow Queen, we strive to hear and live the pure notes of this timeless story — filled with belief, love, laughter, tears, joy, mischief, and above all, a true MIRACL: a little defenseless girl triumphs. She has traveled the world and has no shortage of strength, for her strength lies in her ardent heart. Gerda is a selfless and integral character who will always evoke compassion, instilling the belief that no one can harm us as long as our hearts are ardent. Her sincere belief that Kai is alive and her openness to the world give her so much strength, and she will find harmony, overcoming many trials.
